Friends of SPRI Shackleton Centenary Voyage 2015
19 November- 08 December 2015
Organising the Friends of SPRI Shackleton Centenary Voyage leaving on the 21st November 2014, has been the most exciting experience for Ice Tracks to date. So much so, that the Friends of SPRI have given us the go-ahead to organize a Shackleton Centenary voyage in 2015.
The Endurance expedition named by Shackleton as the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition left British waters on 8th August 1914 and was not to end until 1917, when what was left of the Ross Sea party stranded at Cape Evans, was finally rescued by Shackleton.
Initially we questioned how could we top 2014? We have no doubt it will be different, but in its own unique way, equally epic. In fact, we already have bookings and we are already speaking to ‘special guests’ who will bring something truly wonderful to the voyage.
We were delighted to find that we could correspond our voyage with the date of the sinking of the Endurance – 21st November 2015 (although we don’t intend to replicate that part of the voyage!). A heartbreaking event for Shackleton and his men but one that we feel needs remembering and we are working on many ideas how to do this.
Most importantly, the voyage will again be a fundraiser for Friends of SPRI. We intend to fill the voyage with some 80 passengers.
For now, we can offer frozen 2014 published prices for the 2015 departure:
Triple share $12,595
Twin Semi Private $14,395
Twin Private $16,395
Superior $17,195
Shackleton Suite $18,095
Once Ocean Suite $20,495
This of course will have a deadline but everyone signing early for the 2015 departure will save approximately 7% of the annual price increase that the ship operator applies each year.

VICTORIA STRAIT
EREBUS & TERROR SEARCH EXPEDITION
Resolute Bay to Resolute Bay
26 August 2014 – 09 September 2014
15 days / 14 nights
IN SEARCH OF FRANKLIN’S LOST EXPEDITION … a chance to be part of polar exploration history.
The Northwest Passage has an allure that has gripped explorers and adventurers for centuries. In 1845 the British Arctic Expedition commanded by Sir John Franklin ended in terrible tragedy. His two ships HMS Erebus and HMS Terror were lost and with them the crews perished. Extraordinarily, only some skeletal remains and a few artifacts have been found but the ships disappeared – never to be found.
Robert Ballard, the discoverer of RMS Titanic, described the two missing ships as the most important undiscovered wrecks in the world.
This year four ships will embark on a new search, including our ship the Akademik Sergey Vavilov. Of particular historic significance is the inclusion of the Royal Canadian Navy in this expedition as they transit the Northwest Passage for the first time since 1959.
This is your chance to join this historical voyage!
While the work of the survey will keep in the Victoria Strait area, we will endeavor to explore the ice edge as well as the neighbouring shoreline in a quest to view some of the magnificent wildlife of the Arctic. We are likely to see to polar bears as well as ringed and harp seals. On the neighboring shorelines, we might also be fortunate enough to view muskox and caribou.
During the survey period, we will also undertake an education program with an obviously heavy influence on the history of Arctic exploration.
In addition, we will hope to have a visit by Dr. Douglas Stenton, Territorial Archaeologist for Nunavut and a man who has been chasing Franklin for much of his career.
As a guest you will enjoy numerous daily options that range from activities off the ship, such as hiking, walking, zodiac cruising, photography, sea kayaking, and wildlife viewing. When you are not venturing on expeditions you will be treated with meals featuring top-tier Canadian chefs, and specialized wine menu.
