For many travellers to the Antarctic, the pinnacle of their voyage is crossing the fabled ‘Antarctic Circle’ – and with Ice Tracks you can! Whether you have 11 days or three weeks to spare, want to fly in or feel the swells of the Drake passage, we will find the best itinerary, ship and adventure options for you.
To give you an idea of what a trip across the Antarctic circle could look like, see the itinerary below, but as always drop us a line and we will be happy to talk you through all your options.
Depending on your vessel choice and departure date, the port of call for embarkation may vary between Ushuaia, Punta Arenas, Puerto Madryn or Port Stanley. To be on the safe side, we highly encourage you to arrive at least 24 hours before departure. Ask us for our Free Pre-departure Welcome Packages!
Depending on your vessel choice and departure date, you may have an extra day to explore the sights of the city of your port of call. Attend the optional evening briefing for the opportunity to ask questions and meet some of your fellow travelers.
Spend your morning exploring the city or unwinding at the resort until our mid-afternoon transfer to the ship. Our Expedition Team and ship staff will greet you on board, followed by a safety and orientation briefing and Captain’s welcome dinner.
Join our Polar Experts as they teach you about everything Antarctic, from wildlife to history or sit back and take in this fabled journey while catching exciting glimpses of wildlife. Grab your binoculars to identify the many seabirds that follow the ship as we cross the Antarctic Convergence into Antarctic waters and noticeably cooler temperatures.
The volcanic South Shetland Islands offer amazing abundance and beauty, so we’ll hop into our inflatable Zodiac boats and spend as much time as possible exploring. Be prepared to marvel up close at nature’s glory!
Heading south across the Bransfield Strait, we sail towards the Antarctic Circle. From our most southern point (south of the Antarctic Circle), we’ll start making our way back north, cruising through the narrow channels of the Antarctic Peninsula.
Heading north, we’ll explore any number of picturesque bays and famed harbors, maneuvering through majestic channels as we travel the wildlife-rich waters. There are great opportunities to stop at several active scientific bases and historic landing sites as we spot numerous species of penguins, seals, and whales along the rugged coastlines and in the sea.
We leave this magical place and make our way north, once again crossing the legendary Drake Passage. We have one last hurrah as we celebrate the conclusion of our expedition with a special slideshow and a final meal together.
Morning disembarkation lets you catch a flight back to civilization after midday or stay South and enjoy Patagonia for more sights and adventures. Chat to us about any extension options.
** Please note that all departures disembarking in Port Stanley or KGI have a charter flight included in the price.
When I feel my blood pressure rise or I start thinking that I’m getting stressed at work I just think of the beautiful, pristine, quiet wonderland that we had the privilege of visiting. It works. What a wonderful experience, I’m so happy that we were able to go with such a lovely group of people. Caro and Guts, thank you again for arranging everything. You Rock. Rob and I look forward to meeting up with you again one day soon.
Ice Tracks are an all-round excellent outfit – professional, passionate and personal. This Antarctic experience on this beautifully capable scientific vessel (or its sister ship) is the most authentic to be secured commercially in my experience of seven expeditions to the arctic regions. It was made unique for us by Angie’s arrangements with the Captain to perform our marriage ceremony – weddings don’t get any whiter! Sadly, the three thousand little tuxedoed guests she invited were otherwise engaged on the next island regurgitating krill for their teenage chicks. Caro’s attention to detail, knowledge of the region, and her creative interpretation of our wishes made the Chilean self-drive part of the expedition extremely smooth and enjoyable. The travel arrangements went like clockwork, the route was magnificent, the hotels excellent, and the tips on lake ferry crossings etc all contributed to an exciting, varied but hassle-free independent experience.
