Shackleton’s Final Quest: Speakers and presenters

Shackleton’s Final Quest promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience as we honour not only  Sir Ernest Shackleton and the men who served under him but the heroes of the Edwardian Age of polar exploration. The Shackleton’s Final Quest is a voyage very close to our hearts as it marks the end of a series of voyages that Caro and Angie (co-owners of Ice Tracks Expeditions) started back in 2011 when they marked the special anniversaries of Shackleton and also returned the lost ashes of Frank Wild to Grytviken which were found by Angie.  On that occasion, Ice Tracks was granted  unprecedented permission to lay Frank Wild to rest alongside the Boss. The procession from the Norwegian church to the small but beautifully located cemetery in Grytviken included family members of Wild and Shackleton as well as a party of loyal Ice Trackers. Following this historic milestone, in 2014, they then took a group of 100 members of the Friends of the Scott Polar Research Institute to Antarctica to honour Sir Ernest Shackleton and his crew on the centenary of the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition, 1914. Our voyage, now in the closing stages of two years of planning, boasts of  a range of noteworthy speakers and presenters, who along with the expedition staff, will ignite our imagination. The Hon. Alexandra Shackleton

Alexanra Shackleton

Alexandra Shackleton is the granddaughter of Sir Ernest Shackleton, and President of the James Caird Society, based at Dulwich College, Shackleton’s alma mater.  Hugely in demand as patron on many Shackleton and Antarctic  projects, she recently returned from Monaco having been seated to the left of the Prince of Monaco.  A recent lunch with Ice Tracks founders provided a joyful insight into the pros and cons of representing her illustrious grandfather.

Rear Admiral Nick Lambert

Nick Lambert

Real Admiral Nick Lambert is the former Chair of the Friends of SPRI and present Chairman of the James Caird Society, as well as a Master Mariner. He commanded the ice patrol ship HMS ENDURANCE in Antarctica from 2005-2007, after which he commanded Task Force 158 in the North Arabian Gulf, tasked with the protection of Iraq’s economically vital offshore oil infrastructure. Nick is superb company, many a story to tell, usually by the bar!

Seb Coulthard

Seb Coulthard FRGS

In January 2013, Seb joined the ‘Shackleton Epic’ team, which became the first expedition in history to faithfully recreate Sir Ernest Shackleton’s small boat voyage across the Southern Ocean — with precisely the same equipment and clothing as Shackleton himself.

Seb has served in the Royal Navy, is an accomplished aeronautical engineer, Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, former GB Chapter Chair for the Explorers Club.  His knowledge of all things Shackleton is phenomenal and we are thrilled to have him on board.

Anne-Rachael (standing to the right of Angie in the museum) is a curator at the Wilson Art Gallery and Museum in Cheltenham. Dr Edward Adrian Wilson, Captain Scott’s much loved right-hand man, who was born and who lived in Cheltenham, died alongside Scott in their tent, on or soon after 29 March 2012. The tragedy that befell Scott and his companions continues to cast the darkest shadow on polar history.
The Wilson museum holds a superb and extensive collection of Willson and Ann-Rachael will be bringing some of it to life for us.

The personal information we collect

We will not however, pass any information on to any person not responsible for part of your travel arrangements. This applies to any sensitive information that you give to us for example medical or dietary information. (If we cannot pass this information to the relevant suppliers, whether in the EEA or not, we cannot provide your booking.
